The platform’s first live use case Bank of North Dakota’s Roughrider Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin designed to enable more efficient money movement across North Dakota’s interbank network, according to the release.

Also helping to build the Roughrider Coin are Versabank, which serves as issuer for the stablecoin; Fireblocks, which provides secure digital asset infrastructure and tokenization services; and the Solana blockchain, where transactions are processed, per the release.

“The launch of our digital asset platform is an important milestone for Fiserv and the financial institutions we serve,” Sunil Sachdev, head of embedded finance and digital assets at Fiserv, said in the release. “By moving from concept to production with leading institutions, we are helping clients unlock new efficiencies in banking and payments while maintaining the trust, security and regulatory standards they expect.”

Bank of North Dakota’s Roughrider Coin will enable more than 90 participating banks and credit unions in North Dakota to conduct bank-to-bank transactions more efficiently and establish a foundation for additional money use cases, according to the release.

“Bank of North Dakota proudly works alongside our financial partners to strengthen agriculture, commerce and industry across our state,” Bank of North Dakota CEO Don Morgan said in the release. “Launching Roughrider Coin with Fiserv builds on that legacy by giving our partner community banks and credit unions a new tool to move money more efficiently across North Dakota’s interbank network.”

Bank of North Dakota, which is a state-owned bank, and Fiserv announced in October 2025 that they had partnered to launch the Roughrider Coin and that they planned to offer the stablecoin to banks and credit unions in North Dakota in 2026.

Fiserv announced its digital asset platform and a stablecoin called FIUSD in June 2025, saying the platform would help its regional and community bank clients embrace stablecoins’ entry into the traditional finance space.
