Merchants in China are testing Light Field Communication (LFC) technology that would enable smartphone cameras to facilitate tap-and-go loyalty programs, Mobile Commerce Daily reported on August 1.

    To test the technology, LFC readers will be installed in 100 retail locations in China. Currently, LFC does not support payments, but researchers are working to help the technology reach this goal.
