Amazon Opens Prime Now Beauty Shop In Chicago

It is never a good day for a brand when it seems that Amazon is getting ready to move into your territory.

Ulta, it seems, is having one of those rough days, as Amazon has announced that Prime Now is adding a beauty store.

Starting in Chicago, Prime members will be able to order personal care and cosmetic products from Merz Apothecary — a Chicago store that has been open and in operation for over 100 years. Beauty items can be at customer’s front door in as little as an hour.

“We have thrived in business for 141 years by focusing on our customer needs, and we believe Prime Now is a natural extension of this customer-centric approach,” said Anthony Qaiyum, owner of Merz Apothecary. “As the owner of an independent, family-run business, I am especially excited for us to be able to combine our unique products and our expertise in our field with Amazon’s unrivaled delivery operations. I think it is a recipe for customer satisfaction and business growth.”

Prime Now in Chicago currently offers groceries and prepped food on-demand from over 180 restaurants; it also partners locally with Eataly and Plum Market.

“Merz Apothecary is a family-owned, iconic destination in the Windy City, and we think customers will love the convenience of super-fast delivery of thousands of beauty items,” said Simoina Vasen, director of Prime Now. “We are excited to launch this new product offering in Chicago with such a beloved local brand.”
