Global payments platform Adyen is rolling out point of sale (POS) terminals in the EU, U.K., and the U.S. to deliver an all-in-one solution that gets rid of the need for cash registers, barcode scanners and customer-facing displays.

Equipped with an app management system, merchants can upload and manage the apps they use for daily operations like inventory management and rewards programs. The multi-purpose units lower the overall cost of hardware while boosting experiences with customers in-person, according to a press release on Tuesday (Jan. 4).

Among Adyen’s first customers to try the terminals were tourism and transportation solutions firm Palisis, and in-flight digital services provider Immfly.

“Consumers increasingly want to pay for products, tickets or their meal where they are, without standing in lines. Existing mobile POS solutions typically involve multiple pieces of hardware. Our all-in-one Android terminals combine the flexibility of the Android platform with the security of a PCI certified payment terminal,” said Jan-Pieter Lips, head of unified commerce at Adyen.

Lips pointed to Immfly and Palisis as great use-case examples of the how the terminals deliver “increased mobility and functionality” as well as convenience, which is central to merchants offering the “best customer experiences.”

“Additionally, the use of these devices allows the merchants we work with to run a lean operational set-up, foregoing the need to install separate systems to make it all work,” Lips said.

Adyen’s end-to-end infrastructure links directly to Visa, Mastercard and consumers’ globally preferred payment methods. The company offers frictionless online, mobile and in-store payments. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Amsterdam, the company has offices in 26 locations around the world. Some of its biggest clients include customers Facebook, Uber, Spotify, Casper, Bonobos and L’Oréal.
