First Data’s SMB-Friendly Bank Deal

First Data has secured an agreement with the largest bank in Tennessee to support small businesses.

As part of its deal with First Tennessee Bank, which has roughly 200 retail and commercial banking locations, First Data will be able to offer those clients its products, including its family of Clover business management tools. First Tennessee will also join First Data’s STAR Network to enable it to access an array of fraud protection tools.

“We are proud to work with a distinguished partner like First Tennessee Bank, which has a rich history of exemplary client service spanning more than 150 years,” said Frank Bisignano, First Data’s CEO. “Working together, we are broadening First Data’s unparalleled distribution network, enabling more business owners around the country to access the solutions that will help them adapt to the evolving world of commerce.”

What First Data will be able to offer the bank’s small business customers is tools designed to streamline operations, expand business and customer intelligence, and improve the customer experience. First Tennessee clients can choose the Clover solution that’s best for them, including Clover Station, Clover Mobile, Clover Mini and the newest to the family: Clover Go.

The SMB clients will also have access to the Clover App Market. With more than 150 apps, the Clover App Market offers a point of sale app market with apps that enable digital loyalty, digital gift cards and consumer loans. Beyond that, First Data’s debit network and full suite of debit network solutions will be available. STAR enables secure PIN- and PIN-less transactions, and will soon support signature-based transactions through the new STAR Access solution.

The bank’s SMBs can also tap into First Data’s SpendTrend, a fraud reporting tool used to analyze the complete lifecycle of a transaction across debit, credit, prepaid and commercial card accounts in order to reduce operational costs and fraud losses — including CNP fraud.

“Small businesses are vital to First Tennessee and our communities, and First Data’s Clover suite gives the owners of those businesses the data they need to grow,” said David Popwell, president of banking for First Tennessee’s parent company, First Horizon National Corp. “We’re excited about what our alliance with First Data will allow us to offer our customers.”
