Category leaders are forced to share the crown with a new entrant into the No. 1 spot in this month’s edition of PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps.

Each month, using a proprietary combination of publicly available information and app usage data to which PYMNTS has access, we rank restaurants’ mobile order-ahead apps according to which are nailing it, and which are falling behind.

The Top 5

Domino’s PizzaTaco Bell and Starbucks all held their place at No. 1, scoring 96 points, but this month they were also joined by Dunkin’, which jumped up from its spot tied for No. 2 last month.

Panera Bread, meanwhile, became the sole silver medalist, holding onto its place at No. 2 with a score of 95.

While Burger King was tied at No. 3 with a score of 91 last month, the quick-service restaurant (QSR) is now the sole third-place pick.

Chick-fil-A remained at No. 4, scoring 90.

Wingstop and McDonald’s held steady at No. 5 with 89 points, but this month they are joined in the fifth-place spot by last month’s co-bronze medalist Pizza Hut and by one of last month’s sixth-place picks, Sonic.

The Top 10

Chipotle held steady at No. 6, though its score fell from 87 to 86, while Papa John’s Pizza held onto its score of 86 but rose from seventh place to sixth.

Meanwhile, Sheetz remained in the No. 7 spot, though its score fell back down from 83 to 81.

Shake Shack rose from No. 10 to No. 8, but its score fell from 78 to 76, and it is tied for eighth with last month’s ninth place app, Subway.

Wawa and Jersey Mike’s both broke into the Top 10, the former at No. 9 with a score of 75 and the latter at No. 10 with a score of 71.

Check back next month to find out if Dunkin’ can onto hold its recently-earned place in the No. 1 spot or if those that have occupied the spot for longer can thin out the competition at the top.
