Not A Lot Of Excitement For iPhone 7, New Survey Shows

New survey shows that consumers not too excited about latest iPhone offering.

Are people tired of the iPhone and Apple’s seemingly ubiquitous efforts to get us to buy a new one every year or so by adding a few bells and whistles to the overall concept and giving it a new number?

Well, that’s exactly what a new survey conducted by Quartz found recently. Quartz surveyed 525 U.S. iPhone owners and found that only about 10 percent would be “extremely likely or very likely” to upgrade their phones this year; that’s a marked shift from the usual 25 percent of iPhone owners surveyed who typically respond that they are looking forward to or are interested in the upgraded phone.

Apple reported its first-ever drop in iPhone sales for the first quarter of 2016, and most industry experts expect sales to dip even further in the second quarter of the year. The iPhone 7 is in development at Apple, but no one at this point really knows what it is going to include and precisely how “new” and enticing to consumers some of its upgrades will be (Apple is notoriously secretive about its product designs).

Rumors are already starting to surface that this year’s new iPhone will just be a slight tweak to the iPhone 6/6S model, while next year’s will be the big upgrade that really gets consumers excited.

The poll found that 46 percent of respondents said they had no plans to upgrade their iPhone this year without an overhaul from Apple. About 33 percent said they are “not so likely” to upgrade if the iPhone isn’t redesigned in 2016. Around 11 percent said they would be “somewhat likely” to upgrade their phones this year. And 90 percent of those surveyed replied “meh” to a new iPhone without major new features this year.

Should be interesting to see what exactly Apple rolls out this year for its latest iPhone upgrades.
